Resolution for making City of Homer an inclusive community

Dear City Council Members,

My name is Karen Murdock, address is 55200 East End Road, Homer.  Even though I live outside the city limits, I have been a Homer resident since 1979.  I am asking you to support the above resolution, which is being introduced on February 27.  This resolution asks that the City of Homer adhere to the principle of inclusion and resist efforts to divide this community with regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, physical capabilities or sexual orientation.

The Homer community has a long standing history of welcoming and supporting folks of all belief systems.  We are a community of divergent thinkers who come together for the greater good....making our town a safe, nurturing place in which to live and raise our families.

As demonstrated by an estimated 1000 Homer residents (a significant portion of our population), who marched along Pioneer Avenue on January 21, 2017, our community is committed to protecting the civil rights of all people.  The adoption of this resolution will demonstrate to our city and to the rest of the nation that Homer, Alaska commits to being a community that stands strong against hatred and intolerance. Isn't that the kind of message that we want to give to our children and to each other??  I appreciate all of the efforts that the City Council makes to strengthen our community.  Please support this resolution and help make Homer, a community at the end of the road, where hate and intolerance cease be.
