Resolution 17-xxx

Dear clerk and council members,

I recently read a petition posted by Jeremiah Johnson on Facebook, asking for support for a resolution to declare Homer a ‘sanctuary city.’    Three council members were named as supporters of this resolution.

First, I would like to ask if these council members realize what their job on the council entails?  And do they realize that Homer has some real problems that need to be addressed.  We have a heroin epidemic  in this town.  We have homeless youth and hungry families.  We have roads that are falling apart.    We need to make sure our tourist industry stays strong, we need jobs and training for our youth.  I could go on and on but I believe you see my point.

Why would the council waste time and resources to promote Homer as a sanctuary city?   Homer is one of the most tolerant cities I’ve ever been in.  I’m sure there are cases of discrimination, but overall Homer is a very welcoming, safe and tolerant place.  In other words, these council members, and their resolution, are addressing a non-problem.

I am totally against this and hope that very little time will be spent on it.
