Re: Dear Homer city council,

I have reviewed the proposed resolution. image1.PNG
As you can see here, what you have stated is not the message the community activists like Jeremiah are putting forth. While the wording may not SAY sanctuary city in the resolution, that is exactly what it is attempting to establish. This resolution is attempting to create sanctuary policies. Many sanctuary cities have enacted similar policy, requiring warrants for local law enforcement officials to do their jobs that previously required none.

"Cooperation between federal, state, and local governments is the cornerstone of effective immigration enforcement. State and local law enforcement officers are often the last line of defense against criminal aliens, and are far more likely to encounter illegal aliens during routine job activities than are federal agents. As such, the ability of state and local law enforcement and other government officials to freely cooperate and communicate with federal immigration authorities is not just important – but essential – to the enforcement of our immigration laws.

Nonetheless, law enforcement agencies, local governments, and even states across the country are proactively enacting policies and practices to restrict or all together prohibit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Commonly referred to as “sanctuary policies,” such ordinances, directives, and practices undermine enforcement of U.S. immigration law by impeding state and local officials, including law enforcement officers, from asking individuals about their immigration status, reporting them to the federal government, or otherwise cooperating with or assisting federal immigration officials."

Again, I implore you to NOT impede our law enforcement officials from enforcing immigration laws.

Dear Mr. Clay,
Thank you for expressing your concerns about the resolution. I encourage you to review the resolution when it is published on Thursday. The resolution does not establish Homer as a sanctuary city, it is really a resolution stating inclusion and respect for diversity of all types and does not focus on those who are in the U.S. without documentation. The resolution does not advocate not following local, state, or federal law. (Sorry for the double negative there, not sure how else to make that statement.)

Dear Homer city council,
This letter comes in response to the HCCouncil's upcoming consideration on a resolution to make Homer a sanctuary city.
It is my strong belief that this is a very bad idea.
Our country, state and local governments are based on the rule of law.
Presently there are laws on the books that allow individuals to be prosecuted / deported if they have entered the country illegally. If society chooses not to enforce these laws, what's to stop others from picking and choosing which laws to enforce and which to ignore? When that happens, you're not too far from anarchy.
Laws are in place for an ordered society.
I implore you to not allow this resolution to move forward.
If you choose to not abide by the laws in place , you leave the citizens of this community few options to protect them selves from lawlessness.
Thank you for your consideration.
