Subject: opposed to Resolution 17-xxx

Dear Mr. Mayor and City Council Members,

As a resident of Homer, I am strongly opposed to Resolution 17-xxx as well as to its newer version, which is some of the same. I am troubled that this resolution is even allowed to go out to a vote!

The type of defiance for our president in a resolution such as this may be unprecedented. It is very upsetting that differing opinions about national politics are being brought to the city council and time is being spent discussing politics, without regard to opposing viewpoints, and while other items are dismissed that need attention?

President Trump was elected and will be our president for the next four years, like his policies or not.  I will not be intimidated by those who think that their rights or views outweigh mine, but I believe that the laws of this country need to be followed and enforced. To even discuss that Homer be a sanctuary city is outrageous! According to Numbers USA, “a poll by the Harvard Center for American Political Studies and The Harris Poll of more than 2,000 registered voters found that 80% of respondents oppose sanctuary cities and said they think cities should be required to turn over convicted criminal aliens when ICE asks in order to put them into the removal process. This provides strong support for the Trump Administration's moves to penalize cities that put convicted criminal aliens back on the streets rather than allow Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to take custody. Furthermore, the poll found 75% support for the plan to hire more ICE agents to track down illegal border crossers and visa over-stayers.

In my opinion the three authors of the resolution should resign or be recalled for voicing opinions against federal laws and policies.

Please get back to the work involving the City of Homer and stay out of politics!

Respectfully  submitted

David Morris
