Yes. I was there. It was a very good decision made by the council. I am happy it went that direction, not only for myself, but for the community of Homer.

To our City Council,
I am writing you to oppose the resolution to make Homer a "sanctuary city".
Resolution 17-019, A Resolution of the City Council of Homer, Alaska, Stating That the City of Homer Adheres to the Principle of Inclusion and Herein Committing This City to Resisting Efforts to Divide This Community
With Regard to Race, Religion, Ethnicity, Gender, National Origin, Physical Capabilities, or Sexual Orientation Regardless of the Origin of Those Efforts, Including From Local, State or Federal Agencies. Aderhold/Reynolds/Lewis.
Despite the fact that this resolution is so loosely worded that it could be interpreted by any persons in disagreement with any law passed by our elected officials on a local, state, and federal level. Creating
a sanctuary for those who have not entered our country legally is not in line with our City's moral compass and does not represent how a majority of the citizens of Homer feel about asking our law enforcement officials to break federal and state law. Resolutions
that are this poorly worded can become a powerful tool for those who want to force agendas that are not in the best interests of the constituents that have elected them. In this past Presidential election a majority of voters in Homer voted for President Trump.
This shows how the represented members of this community feel about the current administrations platform on immigration reform.
Furthermore, as a represented member of Homer I feel that this resolution is a waste of our elected officials time. Our local government is here to assist in matters that directly affect our community. If our
city council members feel that this is what they need to be spending city time discussing then maybe we need to look towards replacement of these officials. We have important agenda items to discuss and wasting time on issues such as this, specially with such
a loosely worded resolution, shows the lack of concern these council members have to creating a city that runs efficiently and shows a lack of respect for how our tax dollars are spent.
I firmly believe the “real” agenda is to oppose our current president more than it is about immigration. Catering to the vocal minority is not in our communities best interest.
This agenda item should be thrown out to make room for matters that are actually important to the Homer community.
Entering this country is a privilege, not a right.
