Dear council members,
I've read the proposal. It is steeped in stretched truths, half truths, and outright lies. I'd even go as far as saying treasonous. I've also read some of the letters to this council regarding this proposal. Some for, some against. While I'm not as eloquent
as some of those people, I WILL tell you how I, and my family, feel. This is absolutely ridiculous! Do you not have anything better to do than waste your time with something like this? Hasn't homer always been an all inclusive city that welcomes all? If someone
is breaking the law, why are we going to look the other way, no matter who it is? The one little paragraph talking about the police, saying they won't tell federal authorities about an illegal alien in the jail....if they are in jail, they've done something
to break the law besides being here illegally, right? Or do we have the funds to jail them, feed them? We are already letting drunks out with an ankle bracelet and those are our citizens.
While I'm for legal immigration, I think this would be a step in the wrong direction for us. Whoever wrote this prop, have they done any research into crime? Jobs? Welfare? We have a pretty high crime rate as it is without an illegal immigrant issue. We don't
have many jobs, some of our citizens are struggling as it is! What about the homeless that you could be helping? What about the drugs that are running rampant in our town that you could be helping fight? What about the domestic violence? Alcohol?
Do you honestly think that if we become a "sanctuary " city, that we won't become a magnet for illegal people? I know if I wanted a free pass, I'd look for those places. Put your elected time and voice to better use instead of throwing a temper tantrum because
a select few didn't get their way. Writing a proposal saying it's one thing, but it's nothing but Trump trashing written into a city ordinance. You should be ashamed! You should have better things to do! I know I do! I don't feel like taking my time out if
my day to be writing this letter, and then spend my evening arguing with a select few on February 27th, but I will. What you are proposing is wrong on so many levels. Like I said before, based on lies and bordering
on being treasonous. Shame on you.
