Subject: RE: RESOLUTION 17-xxx (Sanctuary City)
Hello,
I was told the Homer city clerk was the place to write and give opposition or support for the proposed resolution to make Homer a sanctuary City. I hope this is the correct address.
I'm writing to oppose the resolution, or any version of making Homer a "sanctuary city." Homer cannot afford to lose any federal funding. We do not want to keep illegals who are breaking laws. And we don't want to keep our local law enforcement from investigating
the status of a person's citizen status if they are caught breaking a law.
Also, adding language about hate speech makes me nervous. You can twist a lot of things and call it "hate speech". We don't want to mess with freedom of speech. No matter what people have to say, we can't try to legally shut them up SO LONG as they aren't
inciting violence.
Another thing that bothers me is that as read through this resolution nearly every paragraph beginning with "WHEREAS" takes an event or statement and twists it into falsehood. Nearly every "Be It Resolved" coyly tries to hide a deeper agenda hidden in a lot
of flowery words. If I addressed every line this email would be far too long. It blows me away that anyone would write a resolution starting out with so much blatant propaganda.
The entire resolution is garbage. Please don't support this resolution.
Sincerely,
Kiana McLay
